1. Working principle of Coriolis mass flowmeter (Coriolis force flowmeter)

Working principle of Coriolis mass flowmeter (Coriolis force flowmeter): Coriolis mass flowmeter is a high-precision instrument that uses the Coriolis effect (also known as Coriolis force) to measure the mass flow rate of a fluid. Its working principle is mainly based on Newtons second law and the principles of motion mechanics. When a fluid passes through a laterally constrained pipeline (i.e. the sensor of a Coriolis flowmeter), if the pipeline vibrates towards each other at its natural resonance frequency, the flow of the fluid inside the pipeline will generate a Coriolis force proportional to the mass flow rate of the fluid. This force will cause slight twisting deformation of the pipeline in the direction of fluid flow. Specifically, when there is no fluid flowing through, the vibrating tube does not twist, and the signals detected by the electromagnetic signal detectors on both sides of the vibrating tube are in phase. When fluid passes through, due to the Coriolis force, the vibrating tube distorts under the action of torque, resulting in a phase difference (Delta-T) between the signals detected by the detectors on both sides. This phase difference or time lag is directly proportional to the mass flow rate, so the mass flow rate of the fluid can be determined by measuring this phase difference or time lag. In the actual measurement process, the sensor of a Coriolis flowmeter contains two vibrating tubes (also known as measuring tubes) that vibrate towards each other at a certain frequency and amplitude. After entering the sensor, the fluid will flow through these two vibrating tubes and generate Coriolis force with

in them. The electromagnetic signal detector inside the sensor will monitor the vibration status of two vibrating tubes in real time and calculate the phase difference or time lag between them. Then, this phase difference or time lag will be converted into a mass flow rate value and output through the transmitter. In addition, Coriolis flowmeters also have some unique functional features, such as high-precision measurement (accuracy up to 0.1~0.2%), tolerance to low-temperature media, small vibration amplitude, no movable parts, and reliable and stable operation. At the same time, it can directly measure the mass flow rate of the medium and the real-time density of the fluid, making it a convenient density instrument. However, it should be noted that when the fluid medium in the process pipeline contains gas, the measurement value of the Coriolis flowmeter may be affected, resulting in inaccurate measurement results. Therefore, it cannot be used for measuring gas-liquid two-phase fluids. In addition, when installing a Coriolis flowmeter, certain requirements need to be followed, such as staying away from vibration interference sources, temperature change interference sources, and industrial electromagnetic interference sources, to ensure the accuracy and stability of the measurement. In summary, Coriolis mass flow meters use the principle of Coriolis effect to measure fluid mass flow, which has the advantages of high accuracy, wide measurement range, strong anti-interference ability, and fast response. They have been widely used in fields such as chemical engineering, power, petroleum, and natural gas.
